Trump trashed a lot of gov't agencies -- CDC, EPA, Census Bureau, Post Office, etc. -- I hope there will be some accounting of the damage done.
What damage was done?
If I thought this would lead to an intelligent and productive discussion of how these agencies were handled under Trump, I would go into detail and provide more specifics. But I'll open with general damage and see if this conversation is worth pursuing more.
The Census Bureau, Post Office and Attorney General's office were politicized by Trump, and weaponized to try to ensure Trump's re-election. Sort of a Nixonian abuse of governmental agencies. This is institutional damage, and hopefully safeguards can be put in place to prevent it from happening again.
Trump's beef with the postal service stems from his dislike of Bezos who runs the critical Washington Post. This comes from Trump's own words (tweets and interviews). And then he tried to disrupt and slow down postal service in the runup to an election that was going to rely heavily on mail-in ballots due to the pandemic he failed to stem. Trump also threatened to let the PO go bankrupt, and started reducing service. That's a pretty clear case of damaging the USPS for political reasons.
Trump also seeded a lot of partisan political people in many agencies,
with political hacks overruling scientists at the CDC for Covid guidelines. Also
a few hundred million of CDC money was diverted to a PR exercise under Caputo to promote Trump's vaccine strategy.
The CDC was highly compromised and its reputation left in tatters. Which very likely will hamper widespread vaccination.
Trump tried to get AG Barr to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden during the election campaign. Surprisingly, Barr kept an undergoing investigation of Hunter under wraps. But Trump has mostly used the AG office as his own political attorneys.
Dating back to Sessions.
Recently, Trump has tried to embed political appointees into the civil service so that they become hard to remove and can serve as a Trump Deep State.
And it's well-known that Trump never hires the most qualified or competent people, but rather the most sycophantic.
There's more damage and I assume more agencies damaged, but that's a pretty good start of detailing some of the wreckage.
