The funny thing is that if these people jammed together in a protest crowd during a raging epidemic had simply worn facemasks to protect themselves and others, those who unlawfully entered the Capitol would have been much harder to ID, arrest, fire.

We'll see if this last Trump rally turns into another super-spreader event.

The Capitol Hill Insurrection provides the incoming Biden Admin a good excuse/reason to go hard after Qanon and other violent and seditious groups.
Right wing militias and ideology is  a clear and present danger to the Republic.

You may fairly suggest that I'm engaging in undue optimism again,  but I just don't see the JCoS authorizing a Trumpian nuke attack.   For one thing,  an offensive use,  where there is no enemy attack underway, would require a resolution of Congress,  wouldn't it?

Legally, they have no say in it. They aren't supposed to have to authorize it.

Nor does it require a declaration of war.

Prez says do it and they are supposed to do it. And if the JCoS question him, he gets to say he just got off the phone and we've been threatened, so we must react NOW.

Will they have the guts to deny him?

Or hide the "football" from him for a few hours until they can calm him down?   Good question.   I did some research, and found this, from 2017...

At least they were questioning the merits of having that horrific power in one person's hands.   And Corker was gone the next year,  mores the pity.

Not only did those who broke into the Capitol fail to wear masks to protect their health and identity, but most/all brought with them their own personal tracking device, which some used to document their illegal acts.

A Q someone asked on these here interwebs:

Question: can’t we find out who breached the Capitol by using GPS phone data from the various cell phone carriers? Check the location and time and we would know  who’s phone was inside the Capitol.

Is GPS locationing precise enough to identify who enter the Capitol building area, and who stayed outside the perimeter?  I doubt it.
I wonder if some invaders logged on to the Capitol wifi.  My phone automatically accesses available public wifi.  Using Capitol wifi would probably be a pretty good tell who was inside.

In any case, GPS/phone location should be able to easily identify who was part of the protest crowd, and then use pictures and video to visually ID those who illegally entered.
