1.5 million who were unemployed in July of 2016 now have jobs reducing the unemployment rate from 5 percent then to 3.9 percent now.

Their data comes from Compustat’s ExecuComp database, the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) database from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Employment Statistics data series, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis NIPA tables.
Which one of those would you like to claim is bogus? Or perhaps you would like to claim the determination is bogus, without so much as a counter-calculation. You know, flex those mathematical chops of which you seem so proud.
In July, 2016, the Civilian non-institutional population was 253,620,000.
In July, 2018, the Civilian non-institutional population was 257,843,000, an increase of ~1.67%

The number of people who were not in the labor force and were not listed as wanting a job:

The number of folks no longer seeking a job increased by 2 million, Red, or roughly 2.26%. It grew faster than our population, faster than our work force, which grew at about 1.85%, and just below our number employed, 2.92%.
The percentage of our population that is not working grew from 34.86% to 35.07%.
The inflation rate for July was 2.4% (without food and energy). It has increased monthly for four of the last five months. July 2018 had the highest monthly inflation rate since September of 2008. With food and energy, it was 2.9% (highest since mid-2011).
