You know...

Like blocking a SCOTUS nominee without so much as a hearing. Trying to disenfranchise 10s or 100s of thousands of voters.

Or trying to undermine intelligence services or the media.

Lying about/making up conspiracy theories to accuse the other party of cheating on voting - the alleged millions who voted illegally, when there is zero evidence to support such an accusation.

Or failing to protect the voting process from our enemies.

Quote
“This is a major precedent for indigenous rights across the Amazon. Today, the court has recognized a pattern of deceit, bad-faith and manipulative tactics in the Ecuadorian Government’s attempt to earmark the Waorani people’s lands for oil extraction.

The government of the United States has demonstrated just such a pattern of deceit, bad-faith, and manipulative tactics for pretty much as long as there has been a government of the United States.

I have a hard time imagining our courts doing this and even harder imagining such a decision from the Supreme Court. But even were SCOTUS to issue a rational decision like this, I cannot imagine a President Trump supporting or endorsing such a decision.

https://www.upworthy.com/millions-of-acres-of-rainforest-saved-a-tiny-amazon-tribe-just-defeated-big-oil-in-a-historic-lawsuit?g=2

It may be that the upper level court in Ecuador does not allow the ruling to stand. It may be that the government's executive branch ignores the court's ruling and that their military supports the civil government. This all remains to be seen.

But it is a cause for hope in Ecuador and it might be cause for hope for all of us.

“I’ve been to detention facilities where I’ve walked up to these individuals that are so-called minors, 17 or under,” Morgan said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in January. “I’ve looked at them and I’ve looked at their eyes, Tucker — and I’ve said that is a soon-to-be MS-13 gang member. It’s unequivocal.”

Ah, the old "I looked in their eyes" trick for establishing guilt without commission of a crime. No computer needed.

I liked the juxtaposition between the end of the article and the link to another one:

Quote
Morrison's unexpected victory doesn't exactly spell a certain future for conservative control of the country, as it's still unclear if politicians close to Morrison can pass policy with an outright majority or will need to court independents for support.

Yep, a few college grads who couldn’t afford their rent had a good idea and worked it. They saw a niche market and they filled it.

Yeah, everyone should do that.
Well, at least you now understand how AIRBNB was founded and succeeded.
Inovation and hard work.

A sick twisted reactionary real estate system catering to money launderers and tax cheats makes AirBNB possible, putting some money in the pockets of those with excess property and crowding out renters. AirBNB’s value as a company is dependent on conditions that drive people to or keep people in homelessness.

Yes.  Really hurting affordable rentals.  And open to nasty scamming.

Ward is still puzzled by how luck can be a factor in somebody's success, since he is sure that hard work and good ideas are enough to succeed in life.

Then again, he also still doesn't get metaphors.

https://cew.georgetown.edu/cew-reports/schooled2lose/

It's not how hard you work.

It's how wealthy your familiy is.
Check out the story of Airbnb.
For starters.

Ward, people win the lottery. We know that. It's not news. But if hard work were all it took, there would be many more billionaires than there are. The evidence is in. It has been in for at least 80 years, when the first study I know of illustrated the fact that the best predictor of educational attainment was father's income. Not his or mom's education level. Not the kids' or parents' intelligence. Not where they lived or how many siblings they had. Income.

There have been changes since then, with the lower percentage of nuclear families as one of the factors. But the role of SES in educational attainment is stronger than ever, whether you like it or not.
Ok.
Don’t check out Airbnb.

It doesn't require "checking out," Ward. It's been very much in the public eye.
Obviously your eyes don't work.

Weak sauce, sister.
That you are.  AIRBNB is not a rags to riches story, a tale of inherited wealth,  or connected in any way to winning a lottery.
It is a multi billion dollar business built by the persistence of a couple of college grads who turned turned unused spaces into
a worldwide chain of rentable rooms in 81,000+ cites.

Yeah, and?
You jumped into a discussion you did not understand.

Coming from "or connected in any way to winning a lottery" Ward, that is a hilarious statement.

You seldom understand discussions you are in, especially those with metaphors in them.
You brought up the lottery, not me.
You took a metaphor literally. You either lack the capacity for abstract thought or are an intellectually dishonest tool deliberately being an ass for private amusement. Since these are not mutually exclusive alternatives,  I retain the possibility of your being both.
