Trump does NOTHING that is not genuine.  Nothing just to get elected.

Wow.   It's like something from a "Black Mirror" episode.   Or maybe that scene where Ricardo Montalban inserts a mind control worm in Mr Chekov's ear in "The Wrath of Khan."   Except Chekov recovered,  of course.

Or maybe this virus is just a PITA and will get around despite any restrictions, masks, what have you.....

That hasn't been the experience of countries that have made those efforts to control the viral spread.

If you are claiming that there are areas of this country that have made comparable efforts but are still seeing the spread, point out where they are please.

Bo seems to be in the other group, the all knowing.  Pretty sparse over there.

Seeing very health men less than my age die is certainly shocking and educational.

PITA virus -

Elections are determined by events

Dems could benefit bigly from this one, when history is told - though a return to the WH in 2024 for REP PARTY would be unsurprising - should Biden be crowned this year.  Definitely some Carter in that cat - though less impressive.  And for sure we will have a strong representative running.

I too once met a girl in Central Park, but it is not much to remember. What I remember is the time John Wayne killed three men with a carbine as he was falling to the dusty street in Stagecoach, and the time the kitten found Orson Welles in the doorway in The Third Man.

It's a respiratory virus.  We know quite well how to limit transmission.
700 cases and 30+ deaths in Shanghai.  4 deaths in Hong Kon

Are you factoring in different strains of the virus?  Was Shanghai and Hong Kong hit the same as the US in that respect?  Dont get upset, just respond if you like.

Please point to which States met the guidelines for reopening and are now seeing case increases.

You can probably dig and find that.

Its a completely foreign mindset to me.  How do you make a statement without having an example in mind that backs it, then when called on it, think the onus is on others to come up with examples that support your own argument?

Doesnt matter

The statement is true.

I have no idea why you wouldnt take it and fold it into the conversation, preferring to debate it because I said it.

Not everything put forth here needs your 180 degree feedback.
It is a debate you could end with a single word.  Well, two at most unless the state is Rhode Island and you insist on it's full name. But go ahead and pretend that your inability to support your claim is you standing on "principle".

If RI met reopening criteria it seems to have worked out for them:

Overall I'd say it was another great week for Trump!

At issue is whether or not Trump can bounce back

Appears the odds not in his favor - but there are certain aspects that still keep the race alive.

The biggest misnomer during all this is when a talking head says "Trump is doing _______ to appeal to his base"

He speaks his mind, is confident he is the best man to see the US through this spell.  If he is not elected again, it is what it is - and we move on.

Trump refusing to leave the WH is another zany thought.

What you should be thinking is - would he run for elected office again?

I would have gone with misconception rather than misnomer.

Trump casinos, Trump airlines, Trump steaks, Trump university, Trump charities, Trump investors all ruined by Trump and his incompetence.

He did have a hit TV show though. I stopped watching after year-1.

And now he's on track to fuck-up and ruin, the US, its economy, its core principles, its constitution, and kill its citizens through his ineptness and he continues to think he''s the man for the job

He and his supporters are fucking delusional.

And the fear is he'll refuse to leave or so contaminate the 2020 election with scare tactics, lies, voter suppression, or foreign intervention, we may suffer the consequences for a very long time.

As posted repeatedly Trump is a cancer that needs to be removed ASAP.

Bo seems to be in the other group, the all knowing.  Pretty sparse over there.

We know that countries and US States that have made sustained efforts to combat the spread of the virus have in fact managed to combat the spread of the virus.

There are certainly many things about the virus that we don't know.  Using that fact to claim that there is nothing we can do to control it as a means to justify the lack of a Federal level response is false.

One thing we now know,  as I posted at my science chat website,  and BoDiddley posted here,  is that the coronavirus mutated in western nations into a form that is much more infectious than the strains that appeared in Wuhan.   Which makes pandemic mitigation basics like SD,  masks,  indoor assembly bans,  etc all the more necessary.

Even Trump supports mask wearing.

Trump on mask-wearing, June 19th WSJ interview (and repeated everywhere):
Quote
Masks are a double-edged sword,” he said. “People touch them. And they grab them and I see it all the time. They come in, they take the mask. Now they’re holding it now in their fingers. And they drop it on the desk and then they touch their eye and they touch their nose. No, I think a mask is a — it’s a double-edged sword.”

Trump even suggested that he views masks as a political statement against him personally.

“It could be, yeah. It could be,” he said. “But it could also be they feel better about it. I mean, I’m okay with it. Look, I’m okay with it. But the mask is a double-edged sword and I see it."

Don't even bother with the simple fact that if it is all over your mask, then it would have been in your face had you not been wearing one! This is Trump "supporting" wearing masks.

Compare that with some of these other Republican officials from June 25 and before:
Quote
“Everyone should just wear a damn mask,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said bluntly Wednesday.

“We’ve got to — every one of us — to take this seriously, wear your mask, social distance,” his fellow senator from Florida, Rick Scott (R), said Tuesday.

“I know some people think wearing a mask is inconvenient or an infringement on freedom, but I also know it will keep Texas open,” Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott (R) stressed Monday.

“Protect yourself. Protect others. Help contain the spread of #COVID19. Wear a mask,” Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) tweeted last week.
