https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/03/congress-presidency-and-difficulty-majority-rule/618183/

A propos of the 50/50 chat here.

Following the presidency of Donald Trump, some in Congress are ready for a new round of rebalancing. But any project of reform needs to take something into account: Congress is no bargain either as a representative institution.

Look what happened this past week with the proposal to raise the national minimum wage to $15 an hour. The party that won the 2020 election campaigned on such a raise. The majority leadership in both the House and the Senate supported it. The president wants to sign it. Almost 60 percent of the public backs it.

Yet it will not happen as part of the COVID-19 relief bill. Plans have also collapsed to impose tax penalties on large companies that do not pay their employees at least $15.

If a raise in the federal minimum wage does not happen now, it will not happen soon. Despite the overall unpopularity of the post-Trump Republican Party, it is favored to retake the House of Representatives in 2022, because elections to the House systematically overrepresent Republican votes....

It’s good to help republicans eat their own and fall further back in the suburbs. Huge rural outreach and registration drives are also key.

HR1 corrects some of the Bias in the system. That’s why the filibuster is being gutted to get it through. As it’s gravity blues state houses, more republican cheating will be uprooted, accelerating and cementing the shift. It’s time for our politics to catch up with our people free from the influences of foreign adversaries, be it Putin or Murdoch.

Isn't it a good thing that humans can learn from their environment, and modify their behavior as they find necessary. That's how we advance as a society.

"Fauci’s remarks were made on March 8, 2020 and do not represent his current stance on face coverings nor the updated guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"On April 3, 2020, the CDC updated its previous advice and recommended people wear cloth face coverings “in public settings when around people outside their household, especially when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.”

Rush is dead, nobody watchs Fox anymore, the Repubs are a mess, and no one is telling Red what to think.

Red's afraid and isn't sure how to proceed.

Its sad.

I have it on good authority that no matter if there is a virus or not, that YOU should be wearing a mask, so that every babe and every child who passes you on the street no longer has to cry out, "DEAR GOD, MOMMY! WHAT IS THAT THING?!!"

Carry on, dimwit.

“But the character of the current Republican Party can hardly be attributed to Trump alone. A hundred and thirty-nine House Republicans and eight senators voted against certifying some of the Electoral College votes, even after being forced to vacate their chambers just hours earlier, on January 6th. A week later, a hundred and ninety-seven House Republicans voted against Trump’s impeachment, despite his having used one branch of government to foment violence against another.”

Never ceases to amaze how folks who don’t live within the Beltway regurgitate the conventional wisdom of the insider pundits.

If you’re looking at historical trends in midterm elections for 2022 you’re looking in the rear view mirror.

Long ago I learned how ignorant of what really happens in the world is beyond the comprehension of those who live inside the Beltway.

I suppose the same could be said about those inside the Beltway who regurgitate the same bullshit they heard at the same cocktail parties or gathered around the water cooler.

I'm hopeful about '22 (House could be tricky, gerrymandering, Senate might be fruitful) as there's a good chance the Dems will ask voters, Are you better off today than you were...

And a vacced-up healthy working mother and father can exhale, smile and say "yes" and we're taking our first family vacation in years.

And they see a future for themselves and their kids.

And the Repubs will have nothing except gripes

sour gripes and whine

No, Banks, it isn't.

It's just the first time you have acknowledged it.

I have not gotten to the rest of the posts after this one yet, but if you post further on this topic after *this* response from me, it will be deleted the first time.
