Detailed factual report on how Abbott used windfall profits to enrich investors instead of replacing failing equipment, leading to cronobacter contamination.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/may/20/abbott-baby-formula-shareholder-profits

What is your point, if any?

The issue before us is a shortage of baby formula.A shortage wholly caused by government  policy compounded by a Biden Administration asleep at the controls.

USA baby formula is produced largely by three companies, Abbott, Reckitt and Nestle who are the only makers approved by the U.S. government to provide baby formula through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, which provides supplemental food to low income families.

Abbott, alone, has monopoly contracts with  31 states  accounting for well over half of US production.American manufacturers are also protected from foreign competition through high import tariffs.
Formula shortages began intensifying in late 2021 if anyone had paid attention to internet groups of young mothers on the constant search for formula availability. When the Michigan Abbott factory shut down so the FDA could investigate health concerns Biden had no plan B.

Still does not.

We learned from the Great Depression not to allow monopolies, etc, and we have our anti-trust - anti-monopoly rules for a reason.

Having just a hand-full of suppliers for baby formula is against what we need to do, we can check the companies to make sure that everything is clean and safe, with the FDA and the Department of Agriculture and whoever else, and if the baby food is safe then they need to be allowed to sell it, and WIC needs to accept it, etc.

And we can teach the poor former coal workers in Kentucky how to make baby food. Etc.

We need to stop the corruption and other bullshit, we should not have monopolies on baby food.

Salute,

Tony V.

You can go along way killing Black people in America. Buffalo will not be forgotten. Attica will not be forgotten. Greensboro will not be forgotten. Desalonde will not be forgotten. America should be thankful Black people are asking for justice and not revenge.

if you want revenge, you can have it. And it doesn't take luck. It takes showing up at the polls with greater than 70% of the Black eligible population. And it takes getting Asians and Hispanics to join you.

You realize that is the reason for the Stop the Steal Big Lie.

That coalition got Democratic victories in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

If only WHITE women would stop voting GOP we would have a just society.

How many times can Black voters save America from herself?

Well, then find a way to appeal to white women. Let's hear your ideas on that matter.

Apartheid

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/may/17/pro-israel-lobby-defeat-democrats-palestinians-2022

False equivalency, and you know it. Then again, you don't hide your anti-Semitism very well, Bama.

Because the Bennett Government following on the heels of the corrupt Netanyahu Government is the legacy of the Kach Party which was ultra right wing and ultra orthodox.

The Israeli government is operating a system of Apartheid in the occupied territories.

You can call me an Anti-Smite all you want and it carries no weight.

You told people in here to commit suicide so what you say has no value.

I respond to you because it is akin to pulling the wing off a fly.

Fuck off.

GOP happy with FL appeals court decision reinstating DeSantis-drawn map that gives the GOP a 20-8 district advantage (probably) vs. the prior 16-11 district split (with one seat added since then).

Ditto the appeals court's not having given a ruling on the request to expedite the plaintiff's appeal to the FL supreme court.

News Item

A federal judge on Friday temporarily blocked the Biden administration from ending the Title 42 public health order on May 23 -- stopping the administration from a move that had seen significant Republican and Democratic opposition amid fears it would exacerbate the border crisis.

The ruling is a significant win as Title 42 is one of the few policies that is actually working, said Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. I am grateful to the court for upholding the rule of law and helping maintain some level of sanity as we continue to battle the Bidenmade border crisis.

That it's Abbott's fault.  It was right there in the first sentence.  He gave you an easily digestible sardine -- maybe time to stop snacking on all those six-pack rings?

It was right there in the first sentence.
Not only was it not in the first sentence it was nowhere to be found in the article AT ALL.

What we had was a voluntary  recall of baby formula by Abbott so the FDA could investigate possible contaminants in three Abbott products.
According to PennLive In mid-February, Abbott announced it was recalling various lots of three powdered infant formulas from the plant, after federal officials began investigating rare bacterial infections in four babies who were fed formula. Two of the infants died. But it is not certain the bacteria came from the plant; strains found at the plant did not match the two available samples from the babies.

In your cited Guardian article no conclusion could be made.

The FDA and CDC reported the babies consumed formula produced at the Sturgis, Michigan facility before they got sick, and the bacteria may have contributed to their deaths.

Abbott halted production at the Sturgis plant, the largest in the nation, but the company has since downplayed the controversy and claimed there is no evidence to link our formulas to these infant illnesses.
Federal investigators said it was not clear either way.

That leaves us with a shortage that was strictly caused by government lethargy and idiotic policies.
Shortages date back to 2021 stemming from the pandemic disruption of supply chains. The government did not seek relief from costly tariffs or other means to increase supply.
Once again Sleepy Joe was caught napping and parents of newborns were screwed.

It happens every day with Biden.

Fascinating to read Ward try to defend an unsanitary facility with a history of violations.

There are remaining questions, including what made the kids sick and why the FDA did not take action in September.

The recall was voluntary, but later than it should have been.

The fetal stage is where it all went wrong for ward. That is why he has no use or sympathy for babies and even less for anyone more mature. It defines the core of his conservative values.
