The GOP are doing their best to do what they believe is best for the constituents they believe are important. This is the very best the republicans have to offer. They have been at it for days with months of lead up and they have delivered everything they have to offer and established a level of accomplishment they are preparing to sustain for the entire term.

I think Jeffries should go to McCarthy and say "if you back away from those deals you made with the lunatics, we can toss you enough votes to make you Speaker.  Of course, we want Majority seating on Ways and Means and Judiciary committees."

Dems do not want McCarthy either.

This ends when he gives up.

It is good to have extreme voices, left and right, in Congress. It is even good to listen to them now and again. But you should never give them power over you. Especially since some of the far right view the Democrats as their opponents but the likes of McCarthy as their enemy.
Obviously the budget hardliners already have power over McCarthy.
Or he would be Speaker.
The overriding issue,though, is spending.
McCarthy is not trusted to hold the line on spending.
The way Congress works is to authorize spending, then appropriate money for those authorized expenditures, and then to authorize the Treasury Department to issue debt in order to pay for that appropriated money.
Raising the debt ceiling has been done 78 times in the last 60 years and it does not relate to which party is in power. Congress has always found a way to avoid a world financial crisis with band aids, etc., each time.

This faction , now that the GOP controls the House, wants to change business as usual, a debate the democrats avoided with its lockstep reaction to leadership orders.

It is most likely not going to be resolved until the stock market crashes and the kids in Congress have to grow up.

Well my post was mostly fantasy, but I think the Democrats would be fine with McCarthy if they got majority seating on those committees

The argument for electing McCarthy because they now have the power to kick him out at any time is a pretty bizarre turn. There just really are not words for how absurd this whole situation has become. They have not been invented in English. German probably has them.

The Ukrainians do it to Russians all the time.

Cash for clunkers defection protection funds for the first 7 or 8 bright children who will go Dem or live independent within a functioning government in which Rep. Jefferies is Speaker of the House.

It needs to be a big fund because the psychos remaining in the sinking republican boat will fundraise off death threats.

The thing is if McCarthy does get Speaker, he will have done so by mortgaging his testicles to the most extreme members of his party....

Given his track record, I think he can feign fealty to the lunatic fringe and then walk that back in baby steps and by the time they notice he will be entrenched.
Except he has agreed that one person can call for his ouster. And if you not think that fringe will do it, think again.

It is good to have extreme voices, left and right, in Congress. It is even good to listen to them now and again. But you should never give them power over you. Especially since some of the far right view the Democrats as their opponents but the likes of McCarthy as their enemy.

I view McCarthy's agreement as binding in the way that the Treaty of Fort Laramie was binding.  I imagine he already has ideas on how to delegitimize a call for ouster.  But who knows.

BTW love the suggestion about the dog catching the car, Dems all voting for Donalds.

Any Repo who becomes speaker by dealing with Dems would be DOA in that caucus.

Of course. The far right congresscritters do not want a debate 9n how budgeting and spending is done. They want to use the current system to derail spending approved by legislation where they could not defeat the legislation itself. The last thing they want is a change in the system.

More ominous predictions about Tesla sales.

MarketWatch reports that Tesla has missed its target for car deliveries in the final quarter of 2022, leading analysts to speculate about possible issues with demand for the its electric vehicles. According to a statement on Monday, Tesla delivered 405,278 cars in the final  three months of 2022  but fell short of the estimates for the quarter at 431,117.
This marks the first time that Tesla has failed to meet analysts expectations for car deliveries and has led to concerns about demand for the Tesla EVs.
These concerns have been exacerbated by Tesla s recent decision to slash prices for many vehicles, implying that the company is struggling to sell its cars.
This is a significant shift since the company has notoriously had to handle years of backlogged purchase requests as production increased. Analysts have also highlighted Tesla s increasing competition in the Chinese EV market, where many other manufacturers are vying for market share.
40% increase in sales, which you lied about when you claimed Tesla shares "plummeted " in 2022. What is hurting Tesla is that good old robust capitalist notion of competition. People want electric cars, and now there are plenty of options. It is roughly the exact opposite of what RedDickJimmEspn was initially arguing. Tesla issues are actually a sign of a more robust demand and competitive market to meet that demand. His own recent posts show what utter idiocy this post was:

I don't see the word "sales" or "slumping" in the language you've quoted. In reality TESLA sales increased greatly in 2022 albeit by as much as either TESLA or Wall Street predicted.

In any event, though, you still appear to believe that Teslas are the only EVs.
It is the only EV  manufacturer with full service in  a superior car.
But, as noted, sales of ALL EVs are slumping and the industry has been totally oversold
Electric cars may have a market in certain geographic areas but any idea they will replace gas driven vehicles is a foolish prediction.
