The map of the Middle East was gerrymandered by the Europeans after the Second "World War",
They made a mess of it.

I'd argue that it was gerrymandered after the first with amendments to the original twisted arrangement made after the second, but I agree they made a mess of it.

Then  neither of you understand gerrymandering.

Then  either of you understand gerrymandering.

Either of us could explain to you that you don't understand metaphor.

We both know full well that the artificial constructs of the Mandates and the successor countries had nothing to do with lumping people together for the purposes of impacting elections, Ward. It was shorthand for describing the shaping of states for purposes beyond those of the citizenry.

If you had been looking for a single term to describe it, what word would you have used?

If only.

But (and yes, I know you were being facetious) no - he is only going to criticize, not critique, let alone inform!

Where exactly is this Islamic Caliphate returning from?

From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban held power over roughly three quarters of Afghanistan, and enforced there a strict interpretation of Sharia, or Islamic law. ... It held control of most of the country until being overthrown after the American-led invasion of Afghanistan in December 2001 following the September 11 attacks.

A relatively small group, the Taliban - former long-time allies of and backed by the US Gov't  when they fought The Soviet army and defeated them - is not ISIS or Al Queda.
LOL Big enough to take almost total control, establish Islamic Rule, and  give refuge to Al Queda and Bin Laden.

Call it an emirate if it makes you feel better. The official capital is Kabul. De Facto is Khandular.

UK, China, Japan police don't have guns.

UK cops have guns, big guns.
Beat cops don't have guns...ridiculous.
They call the 'gun squad' when they need help.

Terrorists are hacking people to death on London Bridge and the beat cops don't have guns.  More than ridiculous.

We should keep some guns around to scare off Australian squatter types. They are repulsive and too dense to manage a conversation.

——edit——

I guess we could use really big dogs instead of guns.
Actually the best argument for open borders is it scares them away, makes them cower in their mom's basement.

We don't have basements.
No chance Aussies will be pouring in over open borders...gotta work in America, no free lunches there.

Nothing to laugh out loud about, Jim. Not even your spelling. Try Kandahar.  Emirate? Who is the emir?  The democratically elected head of state?
There is none.

At no point have I argued against her right to be armed.

At no point have you acknowledged that there's a far greater likelihood that the gun will be used to kill her or her kids or her kids' friends than her using to kill " two male thugs breaking in armed with a knife [or guns]."

If you think the far greater chance of an innocent being killed by the gun is the mere cost of doing business then go ahead and say so.

The obvious answer is:
. Disarm everyone, no guns at all. None for hunting, none for farmers, none for gangsters, none for anyone. No handguns, no assault rifles...all guns gone.

Only army, cops etc to have guns.

Your brilliance is dizzying.

Isn't that what you want?

Isn't what what I want?

For only police/military to have guns?

Or for you to be brilliant?

For only police/military to have guns.

Nope.

Then once you allow farmers, hunters etc to have guns...you get accidents with kids and guns, domestic shootings, school shootings, workplace shootings etc.
The bad people will always have guns, black market.

No head of state?  That 's really strange. I would have sworn we installed some crook in that office there.
You’d be wrong.
