Bush might have initiated ending the Shuttle program, which was foolish, but the Shuttle program was terminated on Obama's watch, and Rockwell should have been saved. All of the money that went to Space X, and to Russia, etc, could have went to Rockwell and could have saved jobs in my hometown. And I know Boeing is to blame too. My hometown was a beautiful, proud area, now it is a ghetto with a high crime-rate. And it is happening all over America. Once proud areas are turning into ghettos. Once proud people are now unemployed and ashamed. It sucks. Americans love to work, and Americans love to do great things. And America has always been so proud of NASA and our space program, and putting men on the moon was awesome, and my hometown was so proud of the Shuttles. We need leaders who will bring back our pride. We want to do great things, and we want to be proud of our accomplishments. America is a land of achievers.

Salute,

Tony V.

And yet, you've personally achieved very little.

How sad that you've wasted so many opportunities.

Perhaps you should consider looking within, instead of looking to be led.

Sheep.

Not very nice way to talk to Tony.
Not everyone can be a so-called "high achiever", "achiever".

"Achiever" is relative, anyway.

Some people just want to achieve a peaceful and happy life.
A job they can do without too much stress, enough food, somewhere to live they can afford, a happy and healthy family (or not)...a car that runs well all the time.

Achieving...not everyone can be a neurosurgeon, rocket scientist, doctor, dentist, architect, lawyer, corporate executive on big money.
Some people are happy to work at the hardware store for a liveable wage.

Stefanik is always lying to the American people. That’s her job. That’s why you always find her burrowing under the ash heap that is the GOP.

Jared and Ivanka aren’t taking anything far enough to allow the LP any type of discovery process.

They are doing a good job bringing the billboards to everyone’s attention, publicizing their role in more than a quarter million acts of fatally depraved indifference.

Hillary Clinton was probably the most impressive presidential candidate since James Madison.  Knowledgeable, experienced had been in the WH for 8 years, Senator for 8 years, Secretary of State for another 5.  There was Clinton(s) fatigued, she'd been vilified for decades, and was fighting in a male-dominated arena.

There is ZERO question she would have handled the coronavirus much better than Trump with many fewer Americans getting sick and dying and the economy able to rebound faster.  Otherwise we would have had a much more normal 4 years, and 3 rather different SCOTUS additions.

Kind of a shame that a mediocre hack such as Biden gets the top prize while uber-qualified Hillary was thwarted by a complete buffoon.

Kind of took a 30 year hit job from the entrenched criminal class, and Clinton’s choosing national stability over a rigorous counting of the vote. It turns out the instability was was coming anyway. She should have contested the election. If she had, she would have won.

Barrett is not going to make the court without unmaking the court. The Judge theft count currently rests at two.

I would have preferred 4 years to good government to the farce of a hijacking perpetrated by republicans, but by being the worst governing party imaginable, the republicans have opened the door wide to their imminent extinction.

Rather than focus on the past, many wise Americans are concentrating on wiping out the republican party once and for all. That what it means to be pro-life in America.

Most people lack the knowledge to pick a president.
LOL!
Says a  guy that voted for Hillary.

That makes no sense.

Texas could be the linchpin to getting rid of the Electoral College:

https://theweek.com/speedreads/945527/how-texas-could-linchpin-finally-dismantling-electoral-college

That's been my thought since 2016.

But... given the direction things seem to be headed in, will the Dems want it to go away this time?

We got an overwhelming bi-partisan majority of the House to support getting rid of it in 1969, with both Nixon and Humphrey endorsing the measure. But the southern senators blocked it, fearing to lose power. (And given that it was Wallace that the move was in response to, just imaging their deeper motivation.)

But, if we were to get rid of the EC, we'd better offer something of substance to the paranoid middle of the country.

Those middle of the country voters are who put us in this shit.

They’ll get policies that will tangibly make their lives better but they’ll resist because hey! ‘Murica!’

If Dems have the power to make such a move they ought to just do it.

In many situations it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

At the end of the day they are a part of America and deserve as much of a voice as anyone in Anacostia or South Chicago or East LA or North Philly.

It's well past time, too, for Black and Hispanic men to vote. Hopefully, they are this election.

In 2016, 64% of eligible Black women said they voted, compared with 54% of eligible Black men. The gender gap among White voters was far smaller (3 percentage points). Still, White men and White women were more likely to say they voted than their Black counterparts (67% of White women and 64% of White men in 2016).

Hispanic women outvoted Hispanic men by about 5 points in 2016 (50% vs. 45%). However, the gender gap among Hispanic voters has not been consistent. At times in the past several decades, Hispanic men and Hispanic women have said they voted at roughly similar shares. Among Asian Americans, there has been no consistent gender gap as long as the trend has been measured. (Due to the relatively small size of the Asian American sample, voter turnout data on Asian Americans only goes back to 1992.)

Perhaps those lower turnouts among minority groups are due to feeling that their vote doesn't matter. That is a situation that I think we don't want any American to feel, no matter where they are from or who they are.

I think that getting rid of the EC makes for a fairer system, and making it even more fair, would be to use rank-choice voting.

After all, this is a nation in which people love to rate things, be they restaurants, exterminators, dry cleaners, plumbers, hotels, amusement parks, etc.

Giving voters a chance to rank the candidates seems to afford a more democratic method of electing officials. It also seems to create a level of accountability that escapes winner take all election processes.

I'd like to know more about the long term effects of RC voting, as I am sure the pols have figured out at least one way to game it, but on the surface it seems to be more representative and more inclusive a system than the winner-take-all approach.

Rank-choice voting?
If that is "preferential voting" like Australia has...it's horrible.
The "sex party" , "clowns forever" party, "car enthusiasts party" etc get so many votes. Those votes are then distributed as candidates are knocked out.
One time we had "motoring party" guy end up in the Senate.
Best system is to divide the nation up into federal seats by population or whatever.
Say 8 candidates stand for election in a seat...one who gets the most votes wins.
Happens in Britain but not in Australia.
In Australia the candidate must get more than 50% of the vote to win, or the preferences of all the other candidates are distributed.
Greens have 10% of the vote...they usually decide the result of many seats.
They rarely preference the Right.

Weak,  and out of context.   In context of my post,  if you were offered a choice in 2016, between Trump and a GOP president selected by the House, which would you choose.  Not trying to trap you,  it's a fairly simple point.
You were born out of context.

NYT's editorial board

R.I.P., G.O.P.

The Party of Lincoln had a good run. Then came Mr. Trump.[/b]

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/24/opinion/sunday/trump-republican-party.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage

Of all the things President Trump has destroyed, the Republican Party is among the most dismaying.

“Destroyed” is perhaps too simplistic, though. It would be more precise to say that Mr. Trump accelerated his party’s demise, exposing the rot that has been eating at its core for decades and leaving it a hollowed-out shell devoid of ideas, values or integrity, committed solely to preserving its own power even at the expense of democratic norms, institutions and ideals.

A healthy political system needs robust, competing parties to give citizens a choice of ideological, governing and policy visions. More specifically, center-right parties have long been crucial to the health of modern liberal democracies, according to the Harvard political scientist Daniel Ziblatt’s study of the emergence of democracy in Western Europe. Among other benefits, a strong center right can co-opt more palatable aspects of the far right, isolating and draining energy from the more radical elements that threaten to destabilize the system.

Today’s G.O.P. does not come close to serving this function. It has instead allowed itself to be co-opted and radicalized by Trumpism. Its ideology has been reduced to a slurry of paranoia, white grievance and authoritarian populism. Its governing vision is reactionary, a cross beyond obstructionism and owning the libs. Its policy agenda, as defined by the party platform, is whatever President Trump wants — which might not be so pathetic if Mr. Trump’s interests went beyond “Build a wall!”

But many of these disillusioned Republicans also acknowledge that their team has been descending into white grievance, revanchism and know-nothing populism for decades. Mr. Trump just greased the slide. “He is the logical conclusion of what the Republican Party has become in the last 50 or so years,” the longtime party strategist Stuart Stevens asserts in his new book, “It Was All a Lie.”

The scars of Mr. Trump’s presidency will linger long after he leaves office. Some Republicans believe that, if those scars run only four years deep, rather than eight, their party can be nursed back to health.

Others question whether there is anything left worth saving.

Mr. Stevens’s prescription: “Burn it to the ground, and start over.”

Preaching to the choir.

But hopefully its a big fucking choir that sings loudly and clearly,

burn the corrupt and cowardly GOP to the ground.

From 2018 by yours truly

There are no conservatives in the Republican Party, the party is a wholly owned subsidiary of their “donor base” billionaires whose only conservative value is to use their money to buy the society they want. A society where they rule completely, forever Amen . . . until the Rapture.

No one likes to admit they’ve been suckered, so trying to flip Trump supporters is an exercise in futility. However, with the embers of the Kavanaugh confirmation conflagration still smoldering, the white women who provided Trump with 53 percent of their votes had to see the Republicans declare themselves the party of old, rich, white men. Maybe a significant number of them will realize the privileges they enjoy derived from white patriarchy will only be there as long as GOP men allow them to be. Maybe then they will decide to stop supporting policies detrimental to them, not as white women, but as women.

The Republican Party has outlived its efficacy and has, in fact, become what its leader accuses the Fourth Estate of being — an enemy of the people. In order for this grand experiment in democracy to continue into the future, its politics must be allowed to evolve to meet the needs of its growing diverse populations, and that is anathema to the GOP. In order to save the nation AND the principles of conservative politics, the GOP must be destroyed.

It must go the way of Carthage. Its structure battered into bits, the rubble burned to ash, the ashes salted and sowed into the earth, never to grow again.

The Kushners about to be richer

Richer in knowledge of the 1sr Amendment should they be stupid enough to actually sue, maybe. Which, like Typhoid Donnie, they threaten but won't. But the Lincoln Project appreciates the publicity.

After the Obama backlash which led the majority of white voters to lose their fucking minds and fall prey to a con artist black people chose the mediocre hack because we know white people.

Biden has the best chance to beat Trump in this atmosphere precisely because he is an old white  guy and old white people have been kicking themselves the ass since Ronald Reagan.
