Mayor Bowser could have insisted on FULL protection from National Guard, as there was during the BLM protests

And could have (likely she is not so much responsible for this) communicated to DC police to be more at the ready - and more heavily staffed for the day.

Will the press do their diligence?  Jake Tapper did OK today unwinding some of it.  But most others - til we get to 8 PM tonight on FOX, will be more hands off on Bowser and the DC Chief

Surely the rules changed after 9/11 and yesterday.
Terrified senators with plastic bag masks over their heads fleeing the hallowed halls of democracy.
Surely its time for some security upgrades.
The cabin doors were locked closed after 9/11.
People shouldn't just be able to smash their way into the Capitol building and wander thru it trashing everything in sight.
Then sitting in it where the senators used to be and giving victory salutes.
Burst into office building foyers today and try to take the lifts to higher floors...they often won't work without you scan a security card or activate them with some other security.

Ted Cruz could have decided not to label insurrectionists as patriots. Trump could have decided to accept the results of a clean election, not to mention to heed the judgement of all those judges who said he no case for contesting it.

Hawley could have decided to live on this planet, instead of trying to create an alternative neo-nationalist universe from which to try an launch his 2024 campaign.

The GOP Senate could have examined the mountain of evidence against Trump and voted in-line with the US Constitution and found him guilty at his impeachment trial.


Fox News "could have" decided to make sure Hannity and his ilk suspended their support for right-wing conspiracy theorists.


There are a lot of "could have" moments to consider, and so many of them emanate from the "right", which has been decidedly cowed by Trump and abjectly wrong for not standing up for the law during these last 4 years.
