The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is burning, it likely will be a total loss.

How was this allowed to happen? This should never have been allowed to happen.
It's pretty devastating, Tony.
But how would you have proposed preventing it? Tear out its innards and put pipes through with sprinklers? Replace all the wood inside with flame retardent furniture?
I am sure that the keepers of other great iconic structures around the globe are going to face scrutiny following this conflagration, but for all that I wish it were otherwise, I am not sure how they can both preserve these places as they are and protect them from fire.
I am crushed, I wept, this really is devastating.
The way that the fire could have been prevented would have been to have keepers protecting the building twenty four hours per day, arsonists can be stopped, and fires that are started can be put out.
Then too, are the things such as fire hoses, and stuff like that to put out fires. I understand that there are problems when it comes to putting fire sprinklers in a building which was completed in 1345.
There needs to be human protectors on watch at sites such as Notre Dame, twenty four hours per day, seven days per week.
And it is bad now that we have terrorists who would destroy Christian churches, and other meaningful sites. And now you need to keep moving vans and stuff away from the buildings because of truck bombs.
I do not know yet how this fire started, but I do know that many churches here in the USA have burned, and I am sure that many times these fires are the work of arsonists. There needs to be guards on duty protecting the beautiful old churches, etc.
Notre Dame should have had people protecting the church, there should have been people who their jobs were to protect the church.
Salute,
Tony V.
