Re the Colorado faithless elector case:
Colorado’s current secretary of state, Jena Griswold, decried the ruling:
“This court decision takes power from Colorado voters and sets a dangerous precedent,” she said. “Our nation stands on the principle of one person, one vote.”
Which has little to do with the issue at hand.
Our nation is based on the principle of winner take all.
That gets to the heart of the matter.
The faithless elector concept is interesting.
Usually the electors are long-time party vets whose loyalty isn't in doubt. Though they get chosen somewhat early in the process and things can get interesting. Usually if one elector goes rogue, it just becomes a historical footnote. It's pretty unlikely a faithless elector or two could swing a presidential election. But we've been having very close elections. And if maybe a handful or more got together ...
