Clearly you have missed the point. Making saints out of petty criminals is the issue. These motherfucking losers are elevated to hero status PRIMARILY because they represent an acceptable lifestyle to the many who believe that whatever they do should be excused. They don't deserve to die, constitutionally or elswise, an argument that I have never made, but one assigned to me by those unwilling to admit that these motherfuckers aren't deserving of any memorials, statues, hero status, or anything else.

Did the Abolitionists later lionize him as a hero? Sure, they needed an icon, a focal point. So what? American towns are larded with memorials of the undeserving and unheroic.
