Justice systems require critical watchdogs, just as democracy does. If three guys can chase down a jogger and murder him, and the system does not bring charges until months later and only after massive public outcry, then the system needs reform.
That
massive public outcry was made possible by a video. Also known as evidence. Bringing charges with no evidence is an errand of a fool. However and why that video was released the inevitable result was sealed. Numerous religious leaders, politicians, athletes, and other celebrities condemned the incident
and its handling of the case. Three perps were arrested, tried, and will be put away for life.
In Wisconsin video went viral almost immediately but the prosecutors opted to determine guilt by the color of the skin of the man with the gun.
In both cases the videos were damning evidence. Justice and the rule of law were upheld.
The ease of making videos today is a powerful tool for the public to come forward.
But there is no guarantee of the timing.
The most important group of watchdogs is the public.
That is why we have thousands and thousands of public financed tip lines, block watchs, etc.
The media and the authorities are rarely on the scene during the commitment of a crime.
They can only act on evidence supplied by those who were.
See something, say something.
