Drove past RFK Stadium on my way downtown.

The sign now reads 266,000 and the memorial is sunning out of space for the little white flags that represent each life lost.

It’s a sobering view.

Meanwhile, here on Earth...

A good post, banks.

Clearly, Rabbi Larry doesn't get it.

Maybe maybe not.

He might get it, like kid with his sudden concern for covid, might get some of it, but people get locked into their own bullshit-propaganda and can't admit they might have been mistaken.

so they make the same mistake again, and wonder what went wrong.

knicks was warned months ago dems should not scare moderate and indy voters but he insisted America had changed and it was the time to GO BIG.

It wasn't.

He was so convinced that America reached a kumbaya moment.

We didn't.

He didn't get it then.

I don't know if he gets it now.

Give the Repubs credit they got a lot of mileage and votes from defund  the police and socialism and the greening-AOCing of Anerica.

A lot of America was scared of Trump and the possibility of GO BIG Dem-socialists

and some might have been afraid of Willie Horton moving into the suburbs

but I really don't think Willie was an issue in this election

this might have been more about fears of a small Latinx women from the Bronx.

So I’m disappointed so man white people are mostly fearful racists.

Sue me.

For what your world view?

Besides, I'd never collect.

heh

GO BIG or GO HOME!

Damn shame people only think about half of that.

Knicls from time to time you should try GO SMART

LMAO

Nah, because you’d lose.

You should stop trying to attack my intellect, Banks.

It makes you look really small.

Knicks I attacked your ideas which I disagreed with.

You promoted a GO BIG all-in far left agenda earlier this summer and I disagreed and told you why.

I suggested a more limited GO SMART agenda (covid-economic stmuls-protect O-care-infrastructure-environment) which I thought would be more appealing to moderate and indy voters for Dems to run on.

Today from early results it seems that enough moderate and indy voters were pushed right for fears of a far left agenda.

And some House seats were lost.

it was not the time for GO BIG

it was the time for GO SMART

you had a wrong read.

own it.

What would moderates do if China slapped 100% and 200% tariffs on US exports to China?
What would moderates do if China declared ownership of the China Sea and started blockading it?

I think opinions on which aspect weighed heavier on the outcome is a place where reasonable people can differ.

I think what I will call the racial justice and police reform movement probably did cost Dems some votes, but not nearly as many as repudiating it would have cost. It may have been decisive in a few swing districts staying or flipping R but it was also likely as decisive in a few states staying or flipping D for the White House and Senate.

Policing and racial injustice issues must be addressed. It doesn’t look like we’ve arrived at the Frankenstein policy that moves the nation forward on these issues yet, the kind that typically arises from a legislative wrangle within an ideological argument, resulting in a policy where both sides can point to partial victories and trade offs they are more or less happy with.

The 94’ push, which never stopped, led to the ACA 15 years later, and with any luck will yield us a public option before 15 more years have passed. If that does the job, we’ll stop there. If not, the push will continue.

The ERA push has given us Title IX, women on the front lines in combat zones, woman Secretaries of State, woman AGs, and now a woman VP and Treasury Secretary. It’s a start. We keep pushing. The ERA will have its day.

Defining what modern policing will entail and how it will be accomplished will likely follow a similar path.

In the meantime there is no downside in maximizing Democrats’ base turnout in every election, at least until there is a party to oppose them that isn’t clearly a criminal organization amassing power at the expense of the health and economy of the nation.

I’m happy to debate policy with a consistent libertarian or a principled free trader, or someone with a coherent conservative point of view.

The problem going forward on police reform, racial justice, the environment, worker’s rights and a whole host of issues is that there is no point debating a republican. The have exhaustively listed their best arguments supporting everything they believe in their 2020 national governing platform.

Here it is, word for word,

...

Impressed?

Neither am I.

Why does she think this happened because she was black?

And did she leave anything out of the story?

The answer to your questions are 1. Yes and 2. The story was taken to court and charges were dropped so it would seem the facts are in.

The exact facts of the story are important not in determining guilt but in passing judgment on security and police actions of the day

No doubt she gave a clean version of what my guess is may have been a LOUD confrontation.

Twitter keeps fake China image despite PM Scott Morrison demanding removal

As the PM’s pleas to Twitter to remove a fake image depicting an Australian soldier have been ignored, China is continuing its rant against Australia.

Government officials have joined Prime Minister Scott Morrison in criticising Twitter for allowing a “disgusting” fake image to remain online, posted by China, as the country continues to ramp up the rhetoric against Australia.

The fake picture, posted on a Chinese government-linked Twitter account, depicts an Australian soldier holding a knife to the throat of a child.

Overnight, despite pleas from both Mr Morrison and government officials, the image remained available.

Government frontbencher Michael Sukkar was among those questioning why the social media platform allowed the doctored image to remain online, describing it as “disgusting” to the ABC.
But China is refusing to apologise for the controversial image. It also said Australia needed to do some “soul searching” following the release of an explosive war crimes report.
The bombshell report recommended 19 Australian soldiers be investigated for the alleged murder of 39 Afghans.

#####

The time could soon be coming when Australia has had enough of all things China...no matter the cost.
If Australia gives in to China now, what will its citizens now, and children of the future have to give up to China?

dailytelegraph;

Chinese official’s fake Australian soldier photo sets us a Twitter trap

The sheer ballsiness of one of China’s “wolf warrior” diplomats was calculated pitch-perfectly to provoke reaction, writes James Morrow. How should we react?

Here’s a little thought experiment for you: If Chinese special forces were accused of committing war crimes overseas, do you think Beijing would investigate the matter and then issue a very public and highly embarrassing report revealing their misdeeds for all the world to see?

Of course not.

Indeed it’s tempting, given the country’s behaviour from Xinjiang to Hong Kong, to say they’d probably give the troops in question a medal.

Which makes Monday’s tweet heard ‘round the world all the more galling.
